It is primarily doom and gloom, insofar as, thanks in part to the churches' gargantuan failure on the one and and man's innate stubbornness and unwillingness to submit to the will of God on the other, the only language left with which to get his attention and to communicate is that of "doom and gloom"--so as to save as many as possible before the Battle of Armageddon. And, yes, God does promise blessing upon all who will take the time to read it, in spite of its complexity.

The biggest blessing I have had from reading the Revelation is that of "insight" and understanding. With that insight and understanding, I have been able to compile a complete commentary on the Book in its entirety.

Good for you if you insist upon grappling with it, when others won't. If I can be of any assistance, let me know.
