Luke 2:43-50

allegedbiblediff.jpgHere is a Bible difficulty to ponder. Try to answer yourself, and then scroll down for my answer.

Q: In Luke 2:43-50, did Jesus disobey his parents, and perhaps sin, by not returning to them?

A: No, Jesus did not break any of his mother’s commands. Mary might have thought Jesus was disobedient based on Luke 2:48. However, sometimes parents are mistaken when they think their children are not doing the right thing. They never gave a command that Jesus disobeyed, and Jesus might not even have been aware they had already left.
In general, children are to obey their parents. However, if our parents contradict a command from God, we have to obey God and not our parents on that particular point.

What's interesting is to take this context in reverse. Would Mary and Joseph have sinned if they prevented Jesus from going to the temple?

I wonder what Jesus was like as a child growing up. Did he have temper tantrums like babies do today? Was he ever told "no" by his parents? They say you don't have to teach kids how to lie... I wonder if he was ever tempted, and even knew when he was really young?

That holds true to Government as well.
